WELCOME TO

MIDNIGHT STAKES!

Where the Steaks and the Stakes are EXTRA bloody!

It is the only Vampire owned-and-operated Diner in town after all.

When Van Helsing hears the rumors of a restaurant run by Vampires, he simply can't help but drop in for a bite.

In this 4-10 player Elimination Game of Deduction and Reasoning, sling burgers, flip steaks, and blend smoothies with your fellow vampiric chefs to cook the perfect meal for Van Helsing as fast as possible before you get Staked or play as Van Helsing and take them out one bad meal at a time!

Each Vampire player has a unique ability provided by their undead lineage to spice up their meals and thwart Van Helsing's murderous mystery menu!

HOW TO PLAY

SUMMARY

All of the Vampire players must work together to determine Van Helsing's mystery menu. One player must play as Van Helsing while all the other players are Vampires as this is an All-versus-One game of deduction. At the end of each round, one player is eliminated by Van Helsing

OBJECTIVE

As a group of Vampires, determine Van Helsing’s mystery menu by playing all four of the correct ingredients in a single menu. As Van Helsing, guard your mysterious menu and carefully decide who gets staked.

SETUP

Each player receives a Vampire card, selected or at random. This will be their Vampire! One player must play as Van Helsing.

The Van Helsing player will draw a mystery Menu Card (FOR THEIR EYES ONLY).

Throughout the game, Vampires will ALWAYS have the same number of cards. That number depends on how many total players there are.

For 4-6 players, each Vampire starts with 8 ingredient cards.

For 7-8 players, each Vampire starts with 7 ingredient cards.

For 9-10 players, each Vampire starts with 6 ingredient cards.

GAMEPLAY

During the Night Phase, all the Vampires play at the same time and are free to communicate and show their cards with each other. Each Vampire must attempt to lay out the correct Menu by placing four of their ingredient cards – a Drink, an Appetizer, an Entrée, and a Dessert - on the table.

Additionally, each Vampire can take TWO of the following Actions during the Night.

  • Draw one card from the Ingredient Deck and discard one card from their hand or menu.

  • Exchange one card with the Discard Pile. You may search the Discard Pile for any card; it does not have to be sequential. If you take a card, you must discard a card.

  • Trade one card with another Vampire. This counts as an Action for BOTH players.

During the Day Phase, all the Vampires close their eyes and Van Helsing compares the ingredients laid out in front of each of them to their Secret Menu to determine which Vampire to slay! The vampire with the MOST incorrect ingredients is slain. If two Vampires are tied with the number of incorrect Ingredients, but one Vampire is missing one of the four ingredients, that would be considered less correct than a Vampire with all four ingredients laid out. If it is a tied lowest score, Van Helsing may choose between the tied Vampires as they see fit. When a Vampire dies, their last Menu remains out for everyone to see until the next Day phase.

Beginner Mode: During the first round, no Vampires are slain. Van Helsing still provides the following information: The current top score and who they would have slain and their score.

Once the Night falls again, Van Helsing announces who has been chosen for death and their score (total number of correct items, even if it is zero). Van Helsing will also announce the current top score without naming the specific player or players with that score.

Vampires Win if one Vampire plays all four ingredients in Van Helsing’s Mystery Menu!

Van Helsing Wins if none of the Vampires survive before playing the Mystery Menu!

MENU CARDS

Every Menu has one ingredient listed for each category (Drink, Appetizer, Entree, Dessert).

Each Menu also has a star-rating at the bottom of the card. This rating indicates the difficulty of the Menu card for the Vampires, 1-star being the easiest and 5-stars being the most challenging, dictated by the unique food item of each category.
